NEUROSCIENCES AND SWALLOWING REHABILITATION, FROGGYMOUTH: AN ANOETIC APPROACH

Froggymouth Froggy

FUNCTIONAL REHABILITATION THROUGH AN ANOETIC APPROACH IS A FUNCTIONAL NEUROSCIENTIFIC PHILOSOPHY THAT REQUIRES NO ACTIVE PARTICIPATION FROM THE PATIENT.

IT WAS THEORIZED BY DR. PATRICK FELLUS, ODF SPECIALIST, AT THE ROBERT DEBRÉ HOSPITAL, IN PARIS, IN 2011.

Anoetic rehabilitation means an automation of function, without consciousness. It is based on a modification of proprioception by inhibiting dysfunctional praxias.

It gave birth to the very first concepts and understandings of the functioning of FROGGYMOUTH.

This new functional approach was synthesized in 2020 in this book.

It is aimed at all practitioners who wish to deepen their understanding of passive functional rehabilitation and strengthen their mastery of the FROGGYMOUTH tool.

LONG RESERVED TO A SMALL GROUP OF HIGH-LEVEL SCIENTISTS, RESEARCH IN THE NEUROSCIENCES IS STARTING TO BECOME A PART OF OUR EVERYDAY LIFE. THIS CAN BE SEEN IN THE WEEKLY MAGAZINE COVERS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND POPULARIZED BOOKS BY PUBLISHERS – ALLOWING DECISION-MAKERS TO OPT FOR THE RIGHT STRATEGIES. IN OUR PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE, WE CAN REJOICE IN HAVING ACCESS TO THESE STUDIES TO IMPROVE OUR PRACTICE AND INTERPRET THE CHANGES INDUCED BY OUR THERAPEUTIC DECISIONS.

Various causes can be at the origin of the persistence of dysfunction, and the affected children will require functional rehabilitation, generally involving rehabilitation professionals (speech therapists, respiratory physiotherapists) using top-down approaches.

FROGGYMOUTH is a device that, when worn for fifteen minutes in front of a television screen, will force the child to discover a new mode of swallowing via a bottom-up approach. Once the new program is engrammed, the practitioner will need to work on automation by controlling lip posture and inhibiting old circuits. Iconography by functional MRI and a university clinical study validate this innovative approach to rehabilitation.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

DR. PATRICK FELLUS, A FRENCH ORTHODONTIST, HAS DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO FUNCTIONAL AND PEDIATRIC ORTHODONTICS.

TRAINED BY PROFESSORS DEFFEZ AND DELAIRE, HE ESTABLISHED A MULTIDISCIPLINARY CARE UNIT AT THE ROBERT DEBRÉ UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL (PARIS), FOCUSING ON THE CAUSES OF CRANIOFACIAL DEFORMITIES.

HE CONTRIBUTED TO THE CREATION OF IFUNA (INTERNATIONAL FUNCTIONAL ASSOCIATION), AND LATER FOUNDED THE SFOP (FRENCH SOCIETY OF PEDIATRIC ORTHODONTICS), WHERE HE BECAME HONORARY PRESIDENT. HE DID THE SAME WITH IPOS (INTERNATIONAL PEDIATRIC ORTHODONTIC SOCIETY) TO DISSEMINATE SCIENTIFIC DATA ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PREVENTION IN ORTHODONTICS.

FOR HIS WORK, HE WAS HONORED BY THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND APPOINTED AS A FULL MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF DENTAL SURGERY (ANCD).
